‘Brave New World of Digital Intimacy’

” “This rapid growth of weak ties can be a very good thing. Sociologists have long found that “weak ties” greatly expand your ability to solve problems.” I found this to be 100% true. Although I do not consider every person listed as my friend on facebook or to be someone that I often keep in touch with, this virtual community of people has helped me out in so many ways.”

Like stated above, I also believe Facebook and other social media sites like twitter, are excellent ways to keep a watch on the so called weak ties, because even if you aren’t looking for it, you can learn something new every time you log on. Whether it be something new about a person, a new fashion trend, recent news, etc. these sites allow you more access to a variety of random information. The “Big Brother” idea has always been something I’ve kept in the back of my mind when opening and using these types of sites. The internet is by no means a secure place, it provides merely an illusion of security.
